Depth of Concrete

Hay,
We are converting a dairy barn to a shop and have two gutters about 5.5 inches deep that need to be filled with concrete. We were wondering if we could cut our costs a bit and put some gravel down first.
Any opinions on how deep we need the concrete? Could we get away with a couple of inches of gravel first?

If the gutters are formed from concrete, I do not see why you could not get away with using an inch or inch and a half of gravel but not sure that I would go with much more.

There are others here that know a lot more about concrete than I do. Maybe they will chime in soon.

Thanks, that is what I want to hear!
Time may prevent us from using the gravel base. If the cement company was open Sat. we would have done it then, we had extra help around that day.
Looks like we have clear weather all week, so we aren't being pushed for time. We need to do something before it rains or we will have water in the old gutter.
