dirt/rock floor

i rally dont want to deal with concrete (price, labor, devilary) and im thinking of doing a wood floor/dirt floor. the buling in doing withh be 20x20 and one corner of that will be raised wood flooring. i really like this idea but should i use dirt or crushed rock?

oh yea i will be using it for welding, auto work, woodworking, and what ever else
