Do spray gasket removers work?

Replacing a water pump and the old paper gasket is pretty much baked on the iron block after 25 years. Got about half of it off with a razor blade but the rest isn't very accessible. Do any of the sprays do a good job?

I've had good luck with Permatex (blue can). Spray, let it soak 5-10 minutes, softens gaskets up, and prevents damaging aluminum to a degree.
You still have to removed the softened old gasket, the spray remover just makes it easier without damaging the mating surfaces.

It works, but be careful - it eats paint, plastic, and so on.

Spray gasket removers do help, in my experience. But, what I usually do to those paper gaskets that are stuck on is lightly tap them with a very small hammer, and they will flake off fairly cleanly.

Practice your taps on scrap metal to get the hang of not hitting aluminum to hard. Hope this helps.

I usually use the 3m rubber bristle disc with for grinder works great

Had some decal remover spray they worked pretty good.

I prefer a 3m scotch brite rolloc disc
