I found one other thread with a lot of different responses so I thought a poll would help clear things up.

I typically wax a new toolbox when I first get it and then once every year or so when I do a major tool clean up / inventory.

Good ole Turtle wax paste does a great job protecting the paint.

I do not, I do wipe it down regularly and touch up scratches though. When I was first starting out I had a AC flush incident which resulted in me waxing another techs tool box and perhaps that kind of killed any desire to wax any more boxes.

mine get's wiped down regularly with a microfibre cloth and waxed when there is nothing else to do in the shop. for the kind of money you pay for a box it only makes sense to keep it nice. i got $9000 for my old macsimizer when i traded it, i'd guess i wouldn't have gotten half that if i hadn't kept it nice.

Absolutely. The top gets wiped down at least once a week, if not more. The entire box gets wiped down at least once a month. It gets waxed 2-3x a year, and the top gets sanded and varnished every 2-3 years or so.

I'll hafta ask my wife what she does for maintenance. lol

I buy all my toolboxes used, so I end up cleaning them up, and that includes wax. From there, I really don't keep up on it very well. I have plenty of trucks that need it more!

I haven't really in the past...just put a little on my snap on boxes when I got them, but I'm thinking maybe it's a good idea to put some on occasionally. :)

No polisher of tools, or boxes here. Many of my tools are old, but I don't polish nor caress even the new or shiney stuff. My box is a 40" friction slide Crafty with some overspray and a fair amount of dirt and grime on it, that's alright though cause I don't look any better than the box though so it suits me just fine! :lol_hitti

Yes, I live close to the ocean on the Windward side of Oahu where everything made of steel will rust out big time if not protected. Lot's of salt and humidity in the air where I live.

I waxed mine when I got it but haven't waxed it since. I may wipe it down and give it another coat sometime. I voted yes.

When I first get it, I give it a good coat. Then occasional touch ups. Meguires quick wax is my favorite.

I wax them when I get them ( That's what the little bottle of wax that comes in Mothers Clay bar wax kit is for.) then I just use detail spray to wipe them down every once and a while. If I paid what some of the truck boxes cost (Right now I have a Craftsman system) I would wax it all the time. Some of those setups cost what my daily driver costs.

Wipe both boxes down every couple weeks with Meguires quick detailer. That's about the extent of it. Keeps em clean enough for me. I have 3 motorcycles and 3 trucks I would rather spend time waxing.

You guys waxing your tool boxes need to get a life.....better yet, get a wrenching project going; you definitely have too much free time on your hands.

On second thought, a light dusting with the feather duster at times might be appropriate...LOL

Hell, I wax my $300 Craftsman box. I see lots of rusty boxes on Craigslist. I expect mine to look nice for another 40+ years so there is no reason not to take a little time to keep it looking nice and clean. Granted I don't do this all the time. I waxed the boxes when I got them three years ago and they look fine.

I agree with Phatsub.

Some people on this board are losers. Instead of actually doing stuff in their garage they polish everything it seems.

I found this site to get ideas on lighting setup, flooring, reviews of tool storage units and power tools. Pictures of other garage setups gives me ideas for my own.

I'm getting a new box for x-mas, and it WILL be waxed, because my old box looks like ****! Might seem a bit ****, but hopefully it will last a long time!

Can't vote. Not enough options. Mine is Stainless. I do use a SS cleaner protectant on it from time to time.

Just once. That was the day it came out of the box. It got waxed inside and out, top and bottom.
