Dodgy installation?

Hi,

I had an epoxy floor installed yesterday on my painted floor. 100% solids "Silver Package".

Here is how it went down:

09:04 arrived

09:09 turned off power to my camera in the garage

11:37: start cutting in the clearcoat

I have a few questions about this:
Does it look like the floor was suitably prepped?
Do those patches look like they did them or that they were already there under the existing paint? It definitely wasn't prepped up to the edges. There is a raised section behind the camera to the door to the house and in a cubby hole that was painted as well.

There is a portion in a corner where there is a flappy bit because tape wasn't removed:

There are a few places where my wall, door and driveway got epoxied as well as the floor:

In one of the corners I can still see the original paint:

The flakes are not even, they are (to me) obviously denser at the edges. I get that the edges might be difficult to flake but what is my expectation here?

There is a couple of inches crack, is this a sign of anything?

Job was $1900 all-in, haven't paid yet and I'm considering refusing payment right now as it is not the showroom finish they promised in my opinion. I am looking for opinions on where my expectations should be for paying for a professional installation.

Hey Dave. No pics in your post. What product did they use exactly? Was your floor previously painted (not a coating) or was it bare concrete?

floor was painted, Shea as oppose to epoxy if that's what you mean by coating. And I think it should have been Sherwin-Williams as I was given a choice from the SW4000 colors. No idea what I actually got though..

Does the scope of work that you received in writing match what you see on camera?
Did you sign a contract/agreement?
Most t&c's will allow for minor imperfections as this is a custom floor.
Showroom is a SUBJECTIVE term.

We can all agree this was not the correct way to do the work and what was done is not great. However, everything goes back to what you agreed upon in writing.

Hopefully, you can work this out with the contractor and he will do the right thing.

Looks to us like a B- application. A bit sloppy but not a no-pay. Have them touch up where they missed and clean any spills. The unevenness on the edges could be avoided by
doing the curb walls first with epoxy and flecks , then cleaning up the spilled flecks on the floor, then doing the floor and flecking. Once cured enough, clear coat. They didn't do that.

Another concern is did your contract call for a primer as it appears one was not used and on a grinded floor primer is recommended.

Also agree showroom finish is very subjective and means very little. Cracks would be addressed in your contract. If not addressed, you may be out of luck to demand repair of it.

Lastly, it's a garage that will get dirty by next week from rain, road dirt, etc.
in a few weeks it will probably look just fine and it most certainly looks much better than it did uncoated.
