does anyone make a decent chuck extender?

Does anyone sell a decent chuck extender similar in design to these below,as the only ones I have found are cheap Chinese.

I couldn't find one and went with a separate 12" Irwin quick change bit holder and Dewalt 1/4" hex drive chuck.

Both tools have been useful separately as well as when used together but I'm interested to hear if there is something better. Subscribed.

I thought about a something like that, it's a shame nobody makes a dedicated solution of reasonable quality. Did you find anything over 12inch that worked well?

No. I had to use a hole saw on the back of a soffit and that was the only combination I could find on short notice before an inspection. I went to the store hoping to find something like what's in your first post.

I'm pretty sure that Irwin extension comes in 18" as well as the 12" I have.

As it turns out the two components have proven useful to me separately so I'm glad I ended up with them. But if drilling a reasonably precise hole 12+ inches away is what you need then I don't know what to recommend.

On the other hand, if you have any 1/4" hex drivers then I think the separate chuck in particular will prove useful. I've used it in a pinch in both my impact driver and my drill driver (Bosch PS20).

I made my own years ago. Lisle used to sell a 12" one, but I believe they discontinued it.

I've got a few different sizes of 6" and 12" aircraft drill bits, for places I can't reach with the regular length bits.

I still have not found anything dedicated of any quality, but for longer shafts I have come up with:

It's strange that there seems to be a demand for this, but not many quality tool manufacturers are making this.

But then again there is no brand name so I am suspicious.


Just out of interest how have you found the Irwin extension as it gets some very bad reviews on Amazon with it snapping etc. Also how come you did not go for the Irwin chuck, did you find the Dewalt one better quality?

Well I haven't broken it but the Dewalt chuck and other power groove bits seem to wobble in it more than they do in the chucks on my drivers.

What brands are getting better reviews? Like I said in my first post I'm interested in hearing what out there is better.

I bought the Dewalt chuck because it smaller in diameter than the hole saw I needed to use on the extension. If the Irwin was on the shelf the day I bought the Dewalt it was probably larger in diameter and I didn't even consider it.

As I recall the Dewalt is on the expensive side for these types of chucks and others have been equally well reviewed for half the cost.

Keep us posted as to what you find out.

I do as well. Also very easy to replace if it becomes distored or breaks (user feedback shows this is a common fault of any of the commerical offerings). I am very tempted to order one. Anyone used anything like the javelin before?
