doorbell

i don't know jack about doorbells other than they are low votage.


well the little hammer and bell inside sticks but it says use no oil.

is there any way to fix this or do i need to buy a new one?

either play with the little hammer to see if you can loosen it up, otherwise spend $20.00 and buy a new one.

Remove the cover. Get some mineral spirits or turpentine. Get a small paint brush, the size kids use for watercolors. Dip the paint brush in the mineral spirits and get the moving parts of the piston (stiker rod) well covered with the spirits. Repeat a couple times, then wipe clean with a clean paper towel. You'll be surprised at how much sticky gunk you'll see on a white paper towel. Re-mount and you should be good to go for another 20 years. Hope this helps.

Never thought cleaning it. But why can't you oil them??

oil attracts and holds dust. eventually it will stop the plunger from sliding up and down

Yes, try cleaning it. There's not much to go wrong with them. My doorbell was installed in 1956 and it still works fine.

If the little hammer doesn't work, you need a bigger hammer.

I cleaned a few in homes where people smoke. The smoke in the air gets them all gunked up and sticky.
