I have a number of tool stands that have a lot of wasted space in them. Space that could be fairly easily filled with home-made drawers. So, as I contemplated how I could make fairly simple drawers I got to wondering what type of drawer slides (rails, supports, glides) you folks are using on your home-made wooded tool cabinets? Any recommendations regarding brand or manufacturer? Style? Source? Side mount vs. bottom mount? Ball-bearing vs. glides? Etc., etc. Anything to stay away from?

I have some of the heavy duty ACCURIDE 24'' ball bearing full extension slides that are awsome (similar to the ones SO uses)
I have some left over I could part with

I also have some medium duty 16'' full extension ones I could part with

+1 on the Accuride drawer slides. There are alot to choose from, just depends on the weight limits. A quick Google comes up with alot of choices

I went with a mix of the 100# and 75# ball bearing side mounts. If you're building the drawers, don't forget about the thickness of the slides when building the drawers....guess how I found that out!

I keep thinking I may make up a tool box using IKEA kitchen cabinet slides. I assembled a kitchen island for my wifes downstairs craft room. I remember them to be not too expensive and they come with the drawer bottoms. The slides act as the drawer sides and are plenty stout. The box just had smooth sides and the drawer slides screwed into pre-drilled holes. All you need to add to them are the drawer fronts.

Re: Snap-on conversion to ballbearing Ebay knockoffs

I am in process of restoring and adding 100# ballbearing slides to a snap-on lower box.
I have made a couple of lower cabinets using fleabay knockoffs and am very happy with them.
About 20 installed in the 2 cabinets so far.
Just got 20 on fleabay for 60 shipped.

Lowes and HD both carry a good selection of slides in lengths and weight limits. I intend to do that on my mill base, if I can remember where I put the slides.
