drill press pulley damage

The rear pulley on my drill press has a chip in each level. They are not large chips but chips none the less. The pulley is cast iron. For some reason the chips are really bothering me. I figure they are just cosmetic but I want to be sure. Would it be a good idea to take a file and smooth them out? This might prevent any further chipping.

Let me know what you think.

thanks in advance!

Pictures would help, any idea how they were formed? Are they causing belt damage?

Depending on size, I don't see any reason why you should not be able to take the rough parts off.

Any other opinions out there?
