Driveway Bell Installation

I just got my new Milton Bell. COOLEST thing in the world.

I'm still in construction. My plan is to mount the bell up high on the wall, and run the air tube up to it.

My question is...do you guys think it would be okay to run the rubber hose inside the wall, or should I just run it on the outside of the drywall? I'm more concerned with looks than what happens if I decide to take it out, as I can always just cut it.

I've just never seen one of these installed in person. Anyone?

I would worry about the rubber degrading over the years without access to change it. Why not run copper or steel tubing in the wall with a rubber flex hose at either end?

I did get the anchors, yes. My driveway will split left and right based on my shop location (you can see the build thread if you search for my threads), and the bell set it up is not all that utilitarian, mainly just for fun/looks. I'm just going to drop the hose across the gravel 10' from my garage doors.

That's a good point. Your other alternative might be to run 2" PVC in your wall and run the air hose through that. If the hose goes bad you could pull it back out and replace it or move it to another location if necessary.

This was part of my thinking. I was thinking the PVC as well for a feeder tube with a couple of 45's on both ends for ease of threading. I will likely also have a bit of extra rapid-air tubing I can use.

I'm wondering if it might look more "vintage" if I just run it down the wall though. I'm doing stuff like open ends on the roof overhangs, rough sewn painted beams for my porch, etc. so it looks a little less polished (ie: vintage.)

The old gas stations would have the rubber hose loose on the driveway so it could be pulled out of the way for snowplowing.
It was hose clamped to a pipe that went to the bell itself.

It should be noted that this stuff isn't like normal air hose, it's thicker than most of my commercial garden hoses. I think I might go with copper in wall and grab off of it on top and bottom. That way I can also run the copper out of the front of the exterior wall as well.

Copper will be what I would also do. As it ages it looks old timey.

id stay vintage and pipe it through the wall with 1/4in galvanized pipe

cool idea I work for an old petroleum company and there are a couple of news ones sitting on the shelf. my boss built stations 50+ years ago.

run the hose up the outside of the wall and use some of the clamps to anchour it to the wall for full functional imagry..........and then fill and paint screw holes later if need be.............anodize the clips first?........brass headed screws?.............why hide the componenets, celebrate them..........
