Dryer outlet

Hello all,
My dryer quit and I tested the outlet and measured 233 volts between the hot legs, 115 volts to one leg and 106 to the other. Can someone please tell me what my problem may be? How do you diagnose the low voltage?

Check the voltage at the service line coming into the panel at the main breaker lugs with some load turned on such as an oven that uses 240V. Check each leg to neutral for voltage balance to eliminate a service problem. Then go from there checking for loose connection on dryer circuit. It could be the dryer has died. Also check voltage at dryer circuit breaker.

What is the dryer actually doing?

When the power button is pushed the dryer comes on, when start is pushed it shuts off.

Have you turned the cycle dial to a position further along in time and try the start button again? Sounds like a mechanical problem with the cycle switch.

Yes I have but, I'm not getting full voltage on one of the legs at the outlet. I think that's the issue. Thanks for the reply.

Have you tried pulling the cover off of outlet and checking voltage there?

what type o dryer plug- nema 10-30 or nema 14-30?

what brand and model of breaker panel?

I have a friend in a mobile home who's dryer recently wouldnt work. It would start but not dry. I metered the outlet and one leg was very low voltage.

I discovered one lug on the Shitsco(Zinsco) breaker had given up the ghost and as i pulled the breaker out of the panel, it crumbled in my hands. popped in another 30a used zinsco and it worked again.

Went back today and found one of the lugs in the outlet was bad. Thanks for all the help.

One of the lugs was loose and when wiggled had a voltage drop.

ok but that doesnt mean its bad.

just means someone failed to install it properly.

That's more likely the case.
