Early swivel socket??

I am not sure if this an early version of a swivel socket or not, were you get to interchange different sockets. Then again it might be something totally different.

I'm thinking early u-joint that connects the socket to a square hole style ratchet.

You might be right as the early socket wrenches were square hole.

^ yep. early universal joint for square female-drive ratchet.

early u-joints are really quite interesting. some of them are built of laminated sheet steel. most all of them look oversize and clumsy, but bulletproof. quite a few show up in old socket sets listed on Ebay.
