thought I'd pass this along, since it was new to me
had a new electric cooktop installed, since the wiring was above my pay grade
I called in a licensed electrician
situation was as follow, 240v line from the breaker is two blacks and one bare ground
appliance has a black, red, white and ground
electrician connected as follows; black to black, black to red and the
white and ground from the appliance to the ground from the breaker
never saw that before, he explained since both blacks were AC one would be serving as the neutral, with current flowing back to the breaker to complete
the circuit, the white from the cooktop just needed to become part of the ground
nothing blew up and it works fine
I just learned something new
hope its of use
