Electrical final inspect fix

Thought the electrical final would be a breeze, but got a finding.

Didn't know fixtures hung by chain needs connected with stranded wire, not solid.

I only have two on chaings, all the others are afixed to the ceiling. So can I conclude if I just removed these fixtures off the chains and hard mounted these as well. that would satisfy the inspector?

He might go for it, but many of the fixtures that come with chains and hangars are not designed or approved to be hard mounted, as they get too hot.

Merely replace the solid wire with zip cord.

Easy, cheap fix.

Will he let you just make some cords out of sjo cord for them?

Thanks for your response. They are 4' foot tandems. I have 10 hard mounted already and didn't get any grief about them. Just assumed if I hard mounted the last two like the other 10 it would suffice?

I have Romex connecting them now. Could I just wire nut the appropiate size stranded to the Romex and connect?

A worse fix, just get some stranded wire & replace the solid, the inspector was correct.

Don't assume that lack of comment by the inspector means that the fixtures are rated for the application; verify it yourself. The risk of fire far outweighs the 15 minutes to read the manual or look up the model on the internet. Just because it was inspected doesn't mean it's correct, it just means it was inspected.

Might want to check the code on want type of wire you use. Some of the options for stranded wiring are classified as "Temporary" wiring and may not be installed through the sheetrock or affixed to the permanent wiring.

Usually SO cord plugged into a receptacle works out fine depending on how much of a **** your inspector wants to be

Yes, Simkar offers a variety of attachments to mount to the ceiling, although I did not use them.

I am getting the feeling I should just leave them as is and use the appropriate wire. As mentioned, right now I have Romex connecting them. So, could I just splice the Romex and wire nut the stranded to that, and then shove the wire nuts in the drywall so all you would see is the stranded running down to the fixtures?

NO NO NO

You can not have splices inside or wall. They must be inside a junction box. The easiest way to fix this is to cut the romex and put a receptacle and box where the romex comes out of the drywall. Then just wire the light with a whip to plug into the outlet.
