huge selection at my local habitat store. most lights came in a foam covered zippered canvas bag. ive never seen anything like it, id guess its some expensive commerical lighting from what i can find online. real nice aluminum fixtures. also had halogens and some led spots. all in foam filled zippered canvas bags? strange.

i picked through it and found 2 4ft t5ho 120v fixtures. 12 bucks with bulbs! opened them up and have phillips advanced ballasts. going to put one above the toolbox and another above my workbench.

should i go back and get these? the 4 bulb tandem units they wanted 20 a piece for. then there was a fixture that had the bulbs offset with chrome reflectors. they were very skinny. 6 bulbs in fixture, 2 rows of three. the cases were podercoated white for hanging id guess and were around 12ft long for 50 bucks. i have 230 volt to shop, but i dont know what it would take for 277v ?

well if i go back across town, ill get a pic. they had 2 pallet racks full. most of it looked brand new.

It would help if you could post a part number for the fixture, with that information we could determine if they're meant for high bay or low bay use.

As for the 277 volt fixtures, unless they have multi-tap ballasts that can be reconnected to 120 volt I wouldn't bother; you'd have to replace the ballasts to make them work at home - assuming you're in the US, the NEC limits light fixture voltage in residential use to 120 volts.

277v is derived from one leg of three phase and commonly used for commercial building lighting to allow long wire runs. Is it 277v ONLY or is it 120-277v. Many if not most T5HO fluorescent ballasts are 120-277v and will work on any voltage in the range.

these were only labeled 277v it had a wierd number for the bulbs i should have wrote them down. t305 or t239? there were a lot of numbers on the bulbs and the fixtures. on the aluminum housings.

the painted with chrome reflectors were labeled t5 54w HO only

Why are you even looking at T5HO fixtures? We already established (several times) that given your ceiling heights and shop layout, you need standard F32T8 tubes. Period.

Stop farting around with this, buy the RIGHT stuff, and be done with it!

The T5HOs are inappropriate even for this use. Particularly mounted as low as they would be in that application, the glare will KILL you.

Already have all my t8 stuff was looking for some lateral files and ran across these lights. Just stunned that all this was there. More for conversation than anything.
