Guys,

I bought one epoxy-coat full kit to coat by garage floor. It came with flakes, anti slip aluminum oxide etc

Question

1. Do you think the flakes they ship is enough or you guys bought additional flakes. If yes how much more for 500 sq ft floor

2. Did you use anti-slip? I have heard floor gets rough when you use it and makes it difficult to clean.

The supplied flakes will cover the 500 sq ft with a medium flake density. If you want a heavy flake density, you need more. They also impart some antislip properties to the floor as their irregular edges are exposed on the surface of the epoxy. The aluminum oxide can provide additional slip resistance proportional to the amount you add.

The more things with texture that you add to the glass-smooth coating, the harder it is to clean. Dirt and debris will hang up in the texture and may need scrubbing to remove.

I'm debating the same things.

How heavy to go with flakes and whether to use anti-slip. I think I'm going to try and keep in clean and smooth. In winter months, I can always throw down a rug or mat next to the vehicles where the kids and wife get out of the car.

I think Rugerlady may be the wisest in this domain.

She works with many GJ members, has helped them resolve concerns and answered questions just like this one.

If you want a professional and HONEST opinion, I'd contact Christine at:
http://www.epoxy-coat.com/contact_us.php or PM her here on GJ!

I'm not sure what brand of flooring you used.. Christine has 'Epoxy Coat' and it may differ from what you have?

The flakes that are included in the kit are enough to give you light coverage. You have to let me know what density you want and I can help you figure out how much more you will need. keep in mind that if you go with a heavy flake density, your floor will not be as shiny. We also have different grits of non-skid. you can get smaller grit (read easier to clean), or you can just distribute the non-skid in places that have a tendency to get wet and be slippery. Call me if you want to talk more in depth about this.

If you put 4 flakes per square foot, you will have plenty! And isn't the vinyl floor easier to clean than the gravel road? Are these trick questions?

This really comes down to preference... It depends on the look you like. Personally, I prefer a medium-density spread of 2-3 complimentary colored flakes.
