I will be putting up a metal garage bldg. about 50 feet from my house. Is it OK to use the same buried conduit to carry the power along with an Ethernet cable and a phone line???

If so, how do you get the Ethernet and phone lines in the conduit? Do you just drill a hole in the conduit and then seal it with RTV? Is there a special fitting you get that will T off and provide a weather seal?

Thanks

Reb

The Ethernet and phone line have to be in a separate conduit from the power. They can be in the same trench, although you want to keep the two conduits as far away from each other as possible.

Electrical codes require separate conduits. You can place them in the same trench as your water and power. Normal separation is 12" minimum. Your inside runs should also be separated by 12" and put your outlet boxes in separate stud bays from your power outlets. There are industry standards for tel and data wiring that you can Google if you need info on terminations. Its a good idea to use at least a 1" or larger conduit and pull a string in with any cables you place. Use a shop vac to **** a plastic bag and string into the conduit if its too long to fish. Depending on what you are pulling, a rope may need to follow as well.
Hope this helps.
