I initially was going to go with natural gas heat in my new garage, but now am thinking about electric (because I don't want to have to run a gas line)

At first I didn't think electric would really be that efficient, or practical, but was reading some of the reviews from users of this Fahrenheat Ceiling-Mount Model# HUH724SA

My garage is approx 28 x 34 and soon to be well insulated. Would this heater effectively heat this area? From reading the reviews, it seems it would.

If I went this route, would 10-3 wire on a 30 amp breaker be sufficient?

Looks like it is too small for the size of your shop. My shop is 24x32 and I am using a 45k Mr Heater propane.

I bought a 5000w version of that heater (Dayton). My shop is an insulated 20x24, so we'll see this winter. Same deal - I didn't want to have to deal with a big propane bottle, refills, delivery schedule, etc. Reviews all good for spaces near my size. Hung the heater, ran the wire, installed the breaker, done. Initial testing is promising - in the cold, I'll have to run it maybe 1 to 3 hours on full tilt, then something lower for the rest of the time. If we have a serious cold snap (that's like a few days of below 30F here) I still have the tank mounted Mr Heater as a booster. The Dayton unit throws heated air 18' or so. I also "crash tsted" my unit by dropping it off the !#$@&* mount from 8' up. Bent the **** out of it, took it apart and kinda hammered the case back sorta square, readjusted the blower mount, put it back together - runs good, looks "used". This had a small side benefit - the louvers in front liked one position and would not stay in any other. After the crash, I had to tweak it all back into shape. I stretched the springs some and the louvers now have some adjustment range.

The other thing I noticed is that the area around the heater stays fairly cool - the case doesn't seem to get real hot. I hung mine from a joist and have exposed kraft backing from insulation on the ceiling, so I put up a scrap piece of wall board as protection, but in test runs it seems pretty safe as far as radiated heat close to the unit.

For your 7.5KW heater, I'd look in the manual but I think you're looking at a 40amp circuit which is #8. It should pull around 32A. My 5KW unit pulls a real live 20A on each leg at full throttle. I used 10 gauge with a 30 amp breaker. I quick tested it out of the box on a 20A 220V circuit and it ran fine but it had to have the breaker right on the edge of trip.
