2.5 or 3's. And skip the deckmate garbage. Get grk's
(sorry for the multi-messages, saw this after i posted)

3's? that long, potentially? And I love to blame the equipment any chance I get, why is deckmate garbage? (This could be the cause of some screws not tightening!)

I'd do 2.5's. General rule of thumb is to extend 2x material thickness into whatever you are fastening to.

Deckmate over does the paint resulting in drive recesses that are filled and unusable. It's not like every other one, but it's enough to be frustrating.

I don't think I have culled a single GRK since switching

1 - got the longer screws
2 - predrilled into the plywood only, 'cause I was nervous about the bit walking/being close to the edge (didn't need to predrill the 2x4 like you all said, thanks!)
3 - had a brain fart and chose to place the screw DIRECTLY OVER the horizontal screws (so ended up using the 1-1/4" screws there)

in the future, (when fastening into the rim joists) i should place the sheathing/decking/flooring screws to the left or right of the joists, correct?

sorry, i never updated you contributors on the "progress". Got all the boards screwed down to my liking, I cut within about 1/4" of the frame, with plans to flush cut the remainder with a router but that hasn't (probably won't) happened! as it stands, this is a "shed base", MAY tackle walls and roofing down the road, but this has been a good learning experience so far, thank you all for your help!

Well I hope you do walls and a roof soon , otherwise the floor will be ruined in a short time.
Thats a lot of routering to get rid of the lip.
I'd just pop a chalk line and rip it off with a skilsaw (er uh a Metabo)

My neighbor was over 10 years into his roughly 30x30 shop. By the time they put up the metal sheets on the walls, only the top and bottom plates would hold screws. It's been a couple of years since he finally finished it and I'm surprised nothing has blown off yet.

If this isn't trolling, maybe it's another 10+ year project.

My bathroom remodel is going on 4 years I think. Or maybe 5.
I think the house is 10yrs in May.

In my defense I've had to square lots of things in that time....

(And re-do literally everything almost entirely solo)

Hahaha.
Every time I need to square up a project I have to watch about 100 videos on pythagorean theorem to get the gest of it. Ya know because its like a magic trick and if not practiced you become dull at it as with most things.
Ive tried the 3,4,5 thing but if I need the exact diagonal then I break out the a2+b2 =c2 math stuff.
