Apologies in advance if this topic is too basic for this sub.
I bought a new lamp and it came with a 12w LED bulb outputting 1100 lumens. It’s too dark and I’d prefer a 100w equivalent 20w LED. The instructions state to limit LED to 12w and CFL to 23w.
This confuses me. Shouldn’t wattage be the same as far as the fixtures capability? Why does bulb type matter? LEDs put out less heat than CFL so I don’t think it’d be heat.

The warning is also on a sticker applied to the socket.
I called the support line and they started explaining that 23w CFL and 12w are 75w equivalents, etc., which wasn't my question. They then stated one can use a "100w equivalent" to which I said that is counter to the 12w limitation which was rebutted with the fact they have to publish that stuff due to gov't regulations.
When I pressed why a 16w LED was too high but a 23w CFL was ok, I was told that he doesn't understand electricity but the lamp can use a 100w equivalent.
I just want to not burn down my house and find it odd that lamp in 2018 can't handle a 15-20w LED bulb when these things used to push 100w bulbs back in the day.
I don’t understand why I couldn’t use a 20w LED bulb in this fixture. Can someone explain this to me?
