waiting for my welder but anyways i went and bought 2 25" square tube's that are 4x4" and a huge 6x6' sheet of 1/8th" thick steel. also bought about

36 bolts and nuts for temp use still haven't drilled the holes for the deck

leave the "yota" piece off of it.... other than that, good luck. It'll be pretty cool to say you made your truck bed from scratch.

How much weight do you want it to hold?

I'd weld a 4" piece of 4x.188 flat bar on one side of each of those 'body mounts' as a minimum, or else they will have the tendency to fold over from side loading.

I'd also put a couple cross members (2x2x.125 HSS would do) under the sheet of steel, as it will tend to be flexy otherwise and will permanently deform.

And I'd run some more 2" HSS, channel, or something, around the perimeter to prevent the edges of the sheet from being deformed. If you use channel you can get a wire hook to stay on it, but it's better if you weld some flat bar inside the channel if you want to do that. Stake pockets would be a better idea.

Flatbed = Gotta tie everything down.

the most weight i will every carry is prob just going to be from metal at the scrapyards when i need it. other than that lumber and a JD LA110 riding lawn mower when i dont feel like tugging around the big *** trailer. right now im revising my plans for it those pics were just an idea of what it might look like.

this is more of how it will be done i just can't figure out how long of a bed i still want, just long enough for a quad till work but is limiting when hauling brush. then again i like not getting hung up when offroad. i plan on running 4 bolts in each corner straight through everything and bolting it to the mounts as well as welding it with 6011 and 7018

this is how it ended up for the 4th cut off the edges and rounded them off (no support for the 3ft in between the 2 frame mounts. i'll have to wait till my welder gets here. now im looking at a headache rack from square tube triple purpose for lights/exo cage tie in. and a place to winch from the top of the truck when i go to the river to clean it out

Put a Headache rack on it, I rolled one of those beercans and the headache rack on the flat bed saved our lives.

i plan on it but not sure which direction to go. i have more than enough square tube left (no bender). i know how to pipe weld but no pipe other than 2 sticks of 2 1/4" pipe but i wanna use it for my sliders. if i could shape the square tube to fit the contour of the cab i'd do it that way

The headache rack on mine was 1 x2 rectangle tubing that came straight up to where the cab starts to taper to the roof and bent at that point to match the angle of the cab.Then a horizontal piece was welded and gusseted to the uprights a hair above cab height. My flatbed had a diamond plate front that went up to just below the back window and a horizontal piece of 1x2 was tied in at that point to the h.r and the front d.p . Most of the frame work on mine was 3" channel .

i wanted diamond plate but they said i had to buy a whole sheet i no problem got on the scale and it was exactly 300lbs about $230 for it . well i got the tube put on and i was pushing past my $200 budget so i guess i will have to make it with what i have until later then throw on the plate . im still trying to figure out the angles to cut for the headache rack i'll post pics in the next day or 2
