Flea Market Plomb toolbox

I picked up this Plomb toolbox at the flea market today and I was hoping that some people on the forum would be able to give me some information on it. It's an interesting design, was it made for a special purpose or is it just a general tool box? The logo on the inside is in really nice shape. Does anyone know how old it is? Also how do I clean it up I'm afraid to even breathe on it with the logo still being intact. Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just clean it by hand, and keep all liquids, etc, OFF of that decal. A little kerosene or mineral spirits will work for the red paint, or you can even use water soluable, like Simple Green or that purple stuff. Just keep it off the logo!

I've actually thought about reproducing that decal... we could do that at my work. Would people want them, do you think?

Check with Bolster; he was working on this a couple of years back. Not sure what the outcome was...

As far as cleaning..... This spring I picked up a Blackhawk box in similar (maybe not quite as nice) condition. Kit "Scratch Out" worked well for reviving the color, removing some of the heavier stains, and taking out some of the haze, etching and scratches. Don't let the cheapo price of the Scratch Out fool you. Its a better polish than the stuff that is 5 times as expensive. Just don't get super aggresive with it. Follow it up with Meguiar's Color Back or Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. Do not use anything on the printed logo! Work around it. Again, that's a heckuva nice box!

The seller was asking $30 and I got it for $25. After I clean it should I bother to repaint the box or just leave it as it is? I do think the weathered look is cool.

Leave it as-is. Its in pretty nice condition now. Leave a little aquired character to show some history.

I cleaned up the box with some degreaser and left the paint the way it was. I decided to put the box to good use and store my Imperial tools in it because I don't use them as often and it opens up some much needed space in my main box. I though you guys might like some updated pictures. Enjoy.

Stuart...nice box...you did the right thing to just clean it up a bit and leave it be...but those non-Plomb tools inside just won't do. Your box will have an allergic reaction to them. Trust me, voice of experience. I tried to store non-Plomb tools in mine, and the box got deathly ill. It's much happier now...you just have to feed it the right tools...

HaHaHa there's a few Plomb pieces in my box to help it through the withdrawals. That set is impressive, how long have you been collecting it? I especially like those single ended line wrenches.

I assume the Plomb L.A. markings were used in late 40's, but not sure.
