I have that exact same Metric set, I can confirm that. I bought it last Black Friday 2012 for $29.99. I didn't get the SAE, but I'm sure that was the one also.

Hold out for Black Friday. Don't buy yet.

Oh. By the way. They are really nice for 30 bucks. Smooth action ratcheting with high tooth count, and nice tight and smooth flex hinge that doesn't loosen up or wobble after a year of moderate use. Some other brands of flex head get loose and sloppy over time. The Gearwrench seem to stay nice and tight.

Sears Black Friday ad scans have not yet been leaked on the internet. How do you know they are $40 this Black Friday?

going by the hometown ad somebody posted recently, granted its not the full sears ad but gives a good indication.

Black Friday ad just went live. You are right, $39.99 this year.

I'm not seeing much. Deals not really much better than just keeping an eye on this hot deals forum throughout the year. Plus all the Black Friday stuff is probably all Made in China now.

wait for Black Friday. it will be $30 like every year.

Likely with the chinese stuff. Because, you know...it's made in china.

I'm torn here (well with gearwrench) because I think the taiwanese manufacturer is supplying tools to other "brands" with differing warranties and lower prices but I can't be sure. If it's the same tool (that gearwrench used to sell) there is zero point in buying it from their chinatown line when I can get cheaper and with better quality. Not that I use wrenches a whole lot but I'm kind of eyeballing getting a set. Push comes to shove if it says taiwan on the package I'll probably get them from another manufacturer. Not that I have anything against china but the quality difference is apparent.

It feels (to me) like apex (or whoever is controlling these brands) is trying to kill off a bunch of these brands for whatever reason. Pump and dump; get as much money off the brand that they can get before people stop buying it. Why would I buy chinese made gearwrench when I can buy taiwanese made from the same manufacturer that made the old gearwrench without the stamping but with a store warranty for half? It's just derp.

I have to confirm this as a fact, but this is what I suspect.:willy_nil
