Looking at the Torin BlackJack 3 ton from Walmart for $99

Looking at the Harbor Freight Jacks.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=34271 $99

Anyone used the Torin Blackjack?

Ive posted this many times on here, There are only a few Manufacturers of these jacks and they sell to 100's of different retailers and they are priced all over the place. If your intentions are to buy a Overseas jack... Buy it from a retailer that has a good warranty exchange etc. Dont be fooled into thinkng that the blue Napa jacks are any better than the Harbor freight etc... The warranty may be better but deep down if you do some up close and personal inspections you will see its true colors. To clarify im not saying the Napa jack is the same as the $49 dollar harbor freight but it is a import and you can find a red Torin, Mountain Grove, Younameit for a considerable cheaper price that is identical to it. I would look into Omega jacks they are imports and the same parent company of Hein Werner (Shinn Fu) but i have a few in my shop and they are solid made jacks. The Only current Made in the USA jacks are Hein Werner, Milwaukee, Weaver, Us Jack (some) and GRAY. I would recomend any of those jacks companies for a Quality built Jack, Do some research and you can find some deals that might get you close to Price Point. And without a doubt you can buy a used jack, New kit and Have a quality USA piece of Steel for well under you price point.

The Home Depot jack I am 99.99% sure is a Torin. I saw that same jack labeled Torin at Agri-Supply last week.

A friend of mine used to own a commercial garage and all he used were Harbor Freight jacks.

And even then torin wasnt the manufacturer, They do have a manufacturing plant but they just assemble them there and slap there stickers and Paint scheme on them. That Hydraulic design is imported and put together here in the US. I used to keep up with the "Big 3" Foreign manufacturers but i gave up after i realized it was pointless and i couldnt spell there name any longer. Shinn Fu is one of the Biggest Players, Not only the parent company for Hein Werner, Omega but Alot of imported jacks.

When I was in the market for an inexpensive jack, I looked at the reviews on the Sears website for the Craftsman models. There were quite a few bad reviews for some of the expensive ones, but the 3-ton that comes in the jack/stands/creeper package got good reviews, and is often on sale for $99 (including right now!). I purchased it and have been very happy with it. I only use it to lift a VW Beetle. YMMV.

plus you get stands and a creeper! Such a deal!

While it's still fairly new,I've got one of the 3.5 ton blue Napa jacks, and it's been tough as nails,I don't know about the manufacturer being the same, but my Napa jack is made in Japan,I've also got the 3.5 ton Harbor Freight jacks, and it is made in China. They may made by the same company, but they are made in different countries, and the quality is clearly different. The HF jack is blowing by after less than a year of light use.
