Hi all,
New to the site.
Just retired, geologist working in aquifer protection in Miami Dade county for 35 yrs. Tryin to stay busy with my own list of things to do instead of the honeydew list
Need info on old jerry cans and found this site.
Need advice... cleaned out my old jerry gas can (Can is USMC 1987 DOT 5L) with soap and water, after it dried out I saw what looked to be a layer of latex peeling off from the bottom (see picture attached).
In reading through this forum I've gathered it's a layer to protect the metal can from water in the gas and subsequent corrosion.
Questions:
Is the liner still impervious to the gas? Is there any reason I cannot use the can to continue storing gas? and, I'm guessing I'm going to need to use a filter anytime I pour gas out of this can if I can still use it.
