So when we bought this house the garage had a Fostoria infared heater installed. Its a 240v unit, and has worked great for over 2 years, but i went into the garage today and it was freezing in there. So i turned the thermostat and the heater didn't turn on. I checked the breaker and it was fine, so i unplugged the unit checked the outlet and plugged it back in. Well the heater kicked on, but it barely gets hot. The tube doesn't get red hot anymore.

My question is, do these infared tubes go bad? The heater throws off some heat, but I can touch the heater element and hold it with no problems. I would like to avoid buying a new heater but I really have no clue how to service these things. I poped it open and it looks like theres just a lock nut holding one wire onto the quartz tube. Anybody have any ideas?
