I’m covering up this dumb waiter hole (30”x30”) with 3/4” plywood and then 3/4” finished hardwood flooring.

How should I frame the new Support beams?

I was thinking of making an “i-frame” out of 2x8 material. Glued and screwed.

Then attach it to the existing joists with bolt/nuts and washers.

One across the middle parallel to everything else. Don't over think it.

Down below I'd make that into a closet or some type of storage space.

WoW!

To bad you couldn't use it!

We have a 3 story house, and have to climb stairs to bring stuff into the house. Have been investigating ways to add a dumb waiter to the outside of the house. However, $$$$

NYC. Space is a premium and it’s a multi family house.

The shaft was used for closets. But in the new layout it will be common space.

Recently an elevator was added to my two story home, the convenience is priceless.

How about a shared dumbwaiter?

I would just get a couple of joist hangers and nail them at the appropriate height , inline with the existing joist and fasten a pc of 2x
