Free Heater

I work for a natural gas company and I was turning the gas on to one of our customers and they ungraded their heater with a heat pump but had this old heater outside and she didnt know what to do with it so I told her I will use it to heat my garage. It works great just needs a venting system and maybe a short little snorkle like duct with a register on it and it will be done. Its all ready to tie right in.
Day and night is the brand.

The only thing that scares me with that heater is the rust up at the top . I would make sure I had a carbon monoxide detector in the garage when it is running the price was right though . I do have one other question after looking back at your pictures. Do you have natural gas or propane if natural gas I do hope your not planning to use that roll of copper behind the water heater to hook up your furnace ( propane and copper are ok natural gas and copper are not ) I would imagine though that you know that working for a gas company .

tfi, If the second photo is part of your still it would work well as you would certainly get GASSED.

CO detector is a good idea. Garages often aren't as tight as homes, but no use taking a chance.
THe still seems like a perfect idea.

Free is always good as long as nothing is cracked or busted inside. Definitely check it out for those nasty emissions. If all is well, you're in business!

Thanks guys I had it going. and again I do work for the naty gas company.. The same one that supplies my gas. I checked the heat exchanger the other day and she is solid. I have to check those everytime we turn them on for our customers. Anyways thanks for the concerns I can tell ya I would not of known to look prior to this job I probably would of died in that garage. The coppper is just some scrap lying around. Definitly not for gas. The second photo is where its all gonna be tied in. It still needs a fresh air intake built up and a little snorkle on top to direct the flow. I want to paint it but then it will probably stink when I start it up any suggestions on what type of paint to use? Thanks again all. I will get a detector. I have a device in my truck so if it goes off I can do my own investigation to why its causing CO.

I would go with a high temp engine type paint on it and make sure you seal off the top before painting that should help keep the smell down when you fire it up .

High temp and or stove paint and you should be ok.
