Fuel oil nozzles, what is the difference between A & B?

I just changed the nozzle on my home furnace installing a .75 80*A nozzle, the one I pulled out was a .75 80*B, what is the difference between the two? The one I pulled was all coked up & was having delayed ignition when the furnace started. Looked at all the old nozzles in the basement & they are A's so it should be an A like I put in, evidently last time I didn't pay attention & grabbed a B. Looking at them the A has a slightly longer screen area, other than that is there any difference between the two?

Spray pattern of the cone.
One sprays a hollow cone, and the other sprays a filled cone.

If you saved the paperwork that came with the burner it will tell you which nozzle the burner and firebox are designed for.

Thanks Franz. The furnace was here when I bought the house in 89 so don't have any paperwork on it. There were several type A nozzles down there so it must have been designed for an A. Guy at the heating supply place said not too many things use the B which is the solid cone. Furnace now ignites right away with no woosh noise, flame looks good so I'm happy. Now that I know the difference between the 2 I'll be sure to get the right type from now on. Probably what happened last time was all the guys were out on calls & whoever was there when I bought the last one didn't know the difference & neither did I so I wound up putting in the wrong one. Surprised that it ran as good as it did for as long as it did, at least 2 winters.

Cleaned the tube out with brake cleaner, blew it out with the compressor, installed the new tip then checked & reset the electrode gap to 1/8", reinstalled the burner assembly then lubed the motor & blower motor. Will change the fuel filter & vacuum out the heat exchanger next. Is that what you meant?

Generally maintainence consists of general cleaning, filter change, new tip and removing carbon buildup on the plate if it's a FRH burner. Being an 89 burner it may or may not be FRH.
If there is a tin plate at the front of the blast tube that the nozzle sits in front of that has a bunch of slots, it's FRH. Carbon buildup there can give you greif. No big thing, just scrape it clean as you can with a screwdriver.

If it ain't makin smoke after warming up leave it alone.
