G73 good but not great??

I bought the Fahrenenheat G73 the other day from Blaines Farm and Fleet. Its onsale for $199 btw.... This is the same as the Dayton.... Marley makes them for Grainger.. Anyway,
I have a 20x23 attached garage. It is insulated on all exterior walls. The ceiling is drywalled but no insulation in the attic. I have a new r-16 or 17 garage door. I fired it up last night after installing and am not as impressed as I thought I would be. The heat coming out was about 125-135 degrees. Its mounted in one corner pointed towards the center of the garage. I have the fins pointed at a 45 degree downward angle, maybe a little less. Anywho... It felt cold in the middle of the room. My temp gun said it was about 55 degrees, but there were pockets of COLD air in the middle of the garage. We do have attic stairs that were hanging down so cold air was coming in from the attic. I should say that it did raise the temp about 10 degrees in the not quite 2 hours it was on.

But has anyone else noticed its not as warm as you imagined? Im not sure what I expected but I thought it would be warmer after running for 1.5 hours.. It was nice to stand in the heat and not gag from propane fumes!

Check the wiring in the bottom against the manual and make sure it's set for the max 5kW. There are several kW settings on the unit. Mine doesn't put out real hot air but it worked great in my insulated 20x24. 30 min~1hr to get the thing from cold to mid 60s.

You must be losing more than you realize through the ceiling. Mine has 3" of fiberglass in the ceiling and does better yours is on my lowest setting. In fact it feels warm in the center of the area when it is running.

I would say you were lucky to get that with your stairs hanging down. You can't fool Mother Nature, and you can't heat her, either...

Sorry, I should have clarified about the stairs. They were technically up, but the struts didnt retract all the way so there was about a 3 inch gap on the end and sides where they didnt push all the way up against the ceiling. I will check the wattage. I thought it was defaulted to the highest 5kw output. I had the knob turned up to high as well.

Insulation is on the horizon, I just need to get around to cleaning out the attic and decide on cellulose vs. fiberglass. I know 1/2 drywall has like .5 r value or something low, but i thought the heat would bounce around instead of just radiating up through into the attic

so I checked the wiring and it is wired to the diagram Except at the wattage change terminal board, the black wire from the thermostat is connected to terminal C rather than the terminal between C and D. It appears it should move one terminal to the left. The manual says its prewired for max output from the factory. That is the only discrepancy I see.
