Looking for an idea for inexpensive (read cheap!!!) cabinets to put in my garage. I want to fasten them to the walls. I thought of using kitchen cabinets that someone might be throwing out but no luck yet. Any ideas???

Thanks

Kitchen cabinets are a great solution. I was going to recommend Craigslist, but then saw you were in Newf. and doubt that would help. If you called a few remodelling contractors, they could probably give you a lead on some cabinets that were being torn out. Or post a note on at your local grocery store. Some lady might respond that her husband has saved a bunch from a past update and she wants them gone from the basement of garage. Or post a note in the local paper you are willing to haul them off for free...Someone will respond.

Look for a local architectural salvage place. I can buy cabinets at ours for pennies on the dollar. I scored mine by helping a pal do a kitchen remodel.

Check out Menards and Home Depot (or similar home centers in your area). I picked up brand new special order returned cabinets for 10-15 cents on the dollar. Counter tops (some with chips on the edge) can be had for $2/foot and if they are special order damaged, $1/foot or less.

Just joined the board and will post some pics when I get them all mounted in a few weeks.

See if you can find a local home or apartment rehabber or remodeler.

They are always tearing out old kitchen cabinets.

Also check with local cabinet makers, they may have some tearouts as well.

Find companies that do "tentant improvements" of commercial bulidngs or offices. The routinely pull out cabinets that are a few years old just because the new tenants want someting different. I scored about $5k worth of nice "executive lunch area" cabinets for a grand! Will be installing in the next few weeks!!!

That is a good idea. I have a pal that is the head maint. guy at a local retirement community. When someone dies, they redo the apartment. I can score solid oak cabinets for $200.thats an entire kitchen!
