Garage Corners

What do you guys put in the corners of your garages? Beyond a compressor, I find it tough to make efficient space useage of the corners . . .

Floor jack and jackstands, trash barrel, horiz band saw etc...

 

[The Hot Rod Grille]

Corner #1 has a 1950's oak phone booth with working nickel pay phone.
Corner #2 has a Shoney's Big Boy statue
Corner #3 has a Wurlitzer 1015 "bubbler" jukebox.
Corner #4 is where the restroom is (complete with urinal, condom and Kotex machines).

Where is a good spot to get casters from? I have a freezer that I would like to put on casters, but the ones I've seen from Home Depot and Lowes don't seem like they fit or able to handle the load capacity.

I wonder if it would be easier to use a couple of mover's dollys like these:

They look like they have the capacity and you would not have to permanetly attach them to the freezer...maybe rip a piece of 1/2 or 3/4 OSB/plywood the size of the freezer foot print and attach the dollys to it.

Corner 3 2 piece corner work bench
Corner 4 Fridge, TV and surround sound setup.

It brings up a need for a distinction on this forum that is lacking. We need to have a seperate place to discuss "playhouses" or "workng shops" there is a DISTINCT diference.

Not slamming HotROD Grille, he is just an excellant example of a place where you dont do anything more serious than an oil change or entertain the other hot rodders.

Don't be quite so quick to judge a fellow by his clean garage! Work done in the Hot Rod Grille on the '34 Ford this year has included the following:

Installation of air conditioning which involved removing most everything from the firewall forward to grind/ fit/ paint brackets and modify to get everything to fit.

New water pump/ pulleys, etc while car was apart

Drained and removed old radiator and installed new Walker Cobra unit (got anti-freeze everywhere!).

Drained/ removed and installed new Bob rake steel gasoline tank . Ran new fuel lines from tank to fuel pump. Also installed new fuel pump (spilled gasoline).

Not a dirty job, but installed new stereo system (including cutting and fabricating necessary brackets, etc).

Yeah, it's not like the fab that some do in their garages, but I think it definitely qualifies my place as more than just "a playhouse". I am careful when I do my work and clean up well when finished. The next major mechanical chore to be done in the garage will be new stainless steel brakes and exhaust system on the '70 Vette later this spring.

And yeah, a bunch of my buddies stopped by and played pinball yesterday before we went to the local "World of Wheels" car show. As they say in the newspaper social column..."a good time was had by all". Stop by if you are ever in the area!

I agree with Jim. Clean doesn't mean you don't work in the garage. Mine is not as nice as The Hot Rod Grill and plenty of socializing goes on in there BUT Brake jobs, engines out of motorcycles and other "stuff" does happen. Call it a Half Way House for wanabe mechanics.

I too enjoy seeing both.. I have some real tools and such in mine, plus cable, satellite, XM radio, heater, hot and cold running water with sink, touchless soap dispenser, etc in mine.. so its a mixture of the two.

Anybody that has been here a while is aware of your irrational fear of a nice looking garage. Contrary to what you may think, one can actually use a garage to work on a car even if it is clean and has something other than bare studs for walls. Everyone has their own opinions of what they want their garage to be and look like. This is a garage website that is all about sharing ideas, not foisting one's opinion off on others. If you don't like what someone has done with their garage or how they're accessorized it, move on. Don't give them a backhanded slam in a thread that has nothing to do with your opinion.

I can see both sides to the showroom/workshop thing.When you have a nice collection of memoribilia and some nice cars associated with it,why not put it all together? HRG has a beautiful set-up,and the fact that he does work in there makes it practical.However,if I had a garage like that,I'd spend more time cleaning than working. I'd have to have a hidden shop somewhere to do the "dirty" work-cutting,welding,grinding and body work.HRG's place would be a total disaster after a major "bondo" job.
I'd love to have a shop with both-half display,half work-with airtight doors dividing the halves and separate heating/cooling systems .
