Garage door opener. Need help

Hi everyone, I purchase a jackshaft 3800 and notice on my house there is only 3 inches each side of my garage, so I can't install the opener, I'm planing to install a hoist in there, since i cant do the opener and wonder if anyone had the same issue or can give me an idea how can I or what to get to save some space in the garage

Unfortunately the jackshaft 3800 requires 8'' of space on the side min 6" for tight fit and 3'' above the spring line. (as you have found out)

Is there any reason you don't just install a regular trolley/rail operator? I'm guessing its a headroom issue for you???

You might try the jackshaft openers made by ZAP. I'm looking into them at the moment.They don't seem to be as large of a brand as a Liftmaster but the manual for their units does look robust and high tech.
The simplest option is to use a typical trolley door opener but if your door is a high lift then you can't use those. They will also take up some room overhead.
Another good option but a little less conventional is to move the jackshaft from on the door header and place it at the end of the tracks. You would need significantly longer cables along with pulleys to turn the cables 90 degrees where your old jackshaft was. You would also need to have a more substantial mounting point at the end of the tracks. Mounting the torsion shaft at the end of the track is quite uncommon, but is done in applications where a garage door is being installed with extremely low headroom. In that application they are moving the torsion shaft so that they can get the door a couple inches closer to the ceiling.

Hope that helps and lets you know that there ARE still options.
