Garage floor paint

My garage is finally getting concrete as I type this, been a few months waiting, but finally getting done. I really want to apply a paint or a coating as soon as the concrete has set thoroughly.

From everyone's experience how long do you need to let concrete set before applying a paint or sealer?

If it is fresh concrete do you still need an acid etch for pest adhesion?

Also what is the most durable product to use? I like the looks of painted floors over gloss concrete however I want the most durable product I can get so open to either. Don't want to have to reapply every couple years cause once my stuff goes in I don't want the hassle of pulling it all out to reapply.

I have searched on here but can't find a difinitive answer.

I personally would not choose paint or epoxy paint for a garage floor. The simple paint on products simply do not hold up. You want a good durable epoxy product that are usually two or three stage products. They are more money but well worth the difference in cost. I only have experience with industrial products and one company here at work but the one we have stands up to chemicals, fork lift traffic etc. The epoxy paints I have seen lift from the heat of the tires, peel, crack, wear off, etc. and need to be repainted regularly to keep them looking good.

There are a couple of guys on here I believe that sell and apply some of the epoxy products. You can see a couple of them in the sponsor section I believe. Maybe they will chime in.

I went through a similar decision a few months ago. It was $6-7 per square foot for professionally installed epoxy (I did not have the time, patience, or skill to apply a multi stage coating myself) vs. <$3 per square foot for Racedeck free flow tiles. I also sealed the concrete with Silax-seal prior to installing the tiles.

Could not be happier with the floor. Tool boxes, jacks, or anything heavy glides across with ease with no marking. Anything spilled wipes right up and then hoses off the sealed floor below. Also very nice to walk and work on vs. hard concrete. Now that we've had some snow I really love it. Pull in with the vehicle covered in snow, ice, salt and muck...hose it off with hot water and everything drains right through the floor and is totally dry on top overnight. Every few weeks I "sweep" it out with my cordless blower and then run my shop vacs floor attachment over it which gets anything left over.

_Stang_ that look pretty good mate. Is that stuff a perforated rubber tile? What is it like making on and such? Does the Jack leave marks in it or do you remove panels prior to Jacki f? I might do some reading on that product. Thanks.

It's a perforated molded plastic tile. It can take a tremendous amount of weight per square foot. No marking or marring from a jack. I have several extra sacrificial titles and will place one directly below a jack stand but even those show no sign of damage.

Each 12"x12" tile has 2 male and 2 female sides that mate to the tile next to it. Line it up, a few taps with a rubber mallet and you're done. If you ever need to replace a tile in the middle of the floor you can pop it out with a putty knife.
