While working on my Yamaha FJR 1300 last night I removed the passenger seat to find remnants of a snake skin under the seat area. Likely attracted to the aroma of rodents in there. Sorta wondering if the smell of snakeskin will act as a deterrent to rodents and for how long. This was not a serious question that needs answering. Just posting for others that might want to check if "anybody at home?" while disassembling things. Wish some of the visitors could hold a wrench, I could use some help with some tasks. Life in the country y'know.

I let them go about their business and have relatively few pests around the garage.

One of my friends was working part time for another friend, who owns a fairy large construction company. The 1st friend was going through a nasty divorce and driving crew on jobsite crazy. They put a garter snake (harmless) that the found on site into his jeep and sent him out to pick up lunch. Not sure what happened but my buddy somehow saw the snake while he was driving, panicked and nearly drove off the road. He brought back lunch and quit. He didn't think it was as funny as the rest of the crew did. Lucky he didn't hit a tree or worse...

It will not help with rodents. Now if the snake is there still, then it will help you.

-Had (may still have) a rat snake living in the garage somewhere. A discarded/shed skin measured 84" and I would find them once or twice a year for the last 3-4 years. Haven't seen him/her this year so don't know if the food source (mice) is depleted and no longer a resident or it's still hiding out somewhere in the garage/basement. I'm ok with rat snakes being here it's the venomous ones in the area that cause concern.

He's still around. Thats just a shed.
Look enough spots and you'll probably find him.
Hard to tell what it is though. Rat snake?

-The only evidence has been a shed, usually in the engineered trusses. This is the first in a motorcycle that's sat for a couple of years. Yeah shame on me for not riding more (hangs head in disgrace...)

Look enough spots and you'll probably find him.

-Prefer not to disturb, if it's safe for the snake then it will eat all the rodents that dare to show up here.

Not seen any of the copper-heads, cotton-mouths, or rattlesnakes grow that length. You may have them that size in Texas (IIRC) but all of the venomous snakes I've seen here in the foothills of Appalachia are shorter.

Yeah it's going to be a rat snake. He's probably more around 65-70 in. The shed will expand after it sits.
