Not sure what they have in the UK, but there are intercoms that run over Cat5e cable. Take a look at Aiphone.

That sounds kinda slick....will have to check into that. We just use a pair of those Motorola walkie-talkies. They have an "alert" function thing to get your attention so they pretty much fit the bill for us.

Let me see what I have.
Does it have to be Western Electric?

Heh. Doesn't have to be. Don't worry about it too much. They come up around here from time to time, though not quite as often as they used to as so many people seem to think that old=bad and throw away so much.

I still have Model 500 that my parents had, and it still works, despite my adding a jack to record phone calls. Considering I had no idea what I was doing at the time (I was thirteen) it works pretty well. We're using a pair of 2500s in the house because they're the best sounding phones we have.

For awhile someone was making a cell phone accessory in the form of a G-type handset with a coiled cord that plugged into a 2.5mm headset jack. They're now making what looks like an F-type handset that connects to a cell phone via Bluetooth. Pretty awesome, but I wish they'd release a G-type in Bluetooth or with a connector that would work with newer phones that lack the 2.5mm jack. It would be funny to use while driving around...
