Gedore India tools. Opinions?

Op great question, hope I can answer it for you today.

Back two thousand years ago, well maybe early 1970's we had tool tent sales with their famous guarantee of why yes, it's called the good car warranty, sounds good to me right. What they left off was the moment you drove away in your car NO MORE WARRANTY, period. Back then to a poor kid the tools made in India cost pennies on the dollar, as a matter of fact compared to craftsman it was like the craftsman were the snap-on prices and the tools from India were like for a few dollars you could buy massive tool sets.

So, wrenching on them all you heard was pop,bam,boom,crack,snap, and kaboom with failure after failure and you were left with just plain junk. Now keep in mind that leaves a bad taste in one's mouth to NEVER AGAIN buy that junk. so, when guys my age see anything stamped with made in India it's a no brainer to avoid them.

There are some exceptions and yes Gedore are very good tools and I'm sure the ones made outside of Germany are very good tools, but from my past learning I tend to avoid any tools made from there. Not a day goes by that I see tons of Gedore from India and I get PTSD, from all my busted knuckles and screaming about broken tools coming from all that tool tent garbage.

Once I bought a set of 1/4 metric sockets made in India at a flea marke. The first one I used was a 10mm that broke at first contact with a bolt.
No more India tools for me! I doubt Vietnam as well.

I'd never seen these Indian made Gedore's nor did I know about them until I moved to the US.
I bought a few not knowing and thinking " it's Gedore " when pressing the check out button on eBay.

Most of my SAE wrenches are Gedore India now with my metric Wrenches being a mixture of German and South African forged.

I haven't had issues with the Indian made Gedore wrenches but found that the Indian made Gedore Red wrenches were shockingly bad.

I wouldn't say as said about by someone that the Gedore India wrenches from the past are worse than Pittsburgh , those Pittsburgh wrenches are the worst I've ever seen sold at a legitimate retailer.

I don't do heavy torque wrenching in SAE so I can't speak on things like strength of the old Indian made Gedore wrenches , but I've had no issue besides the fact that they aren't cleaned up before finishing. The actual chrome plating has been holding up. And they fit fasteners and feel better in my hand than the Home depot Husky does , also made in India.

People don't like them , but some use them without issue. My Gedore 1B are my favorite wrenches and the box end pulls off fasteners that other wrenches round off due to various factors. They just have such a good box end on them and that extra clearance as well as the beam not digging into ones hand just helps.

If you get the old Indian made Gedore for 50c -$1 each , get them but don't pay eBay prices for them. I wouldn't pay a penny for the Gedore red wrenches made in india though, lesson learned.

I remember in the early 2000's a massive amount of NOS Indian Gedore tools turned up on Ebay. Mostly combination wrench sets. Most of the listings had no mention of India. And of course most of the listings made sure to mention no refunds. I remember at the time many missed that part about refunds and didn't understand what they were looking at. Thought they got they deal of a lifetime, only to end up quickly with broken and warped tools.
