Going Back To Mechanics Work

Well after 8 years of cabinetwork and construction I am going back to being a Mechanic again...pay is better and their is year round work..7 years ago I sold My Snap-On Roll Cab and top box I had for 12 years...I also sold most of the heavier 1/2" & 3/4" Drive sockets ratchets etc I used for doing Heavy Truck/Diesel work..Ive got most of what I need as far as that goes..I purchased a Craftsman box this week-end..bottom middle top..done buying $4000 boxes for awhile..lol..anyway..I am looking at a good Impact..I really like the IR's..always had em and never had an issue..I am looking at an IR231C
for 139..I see alot of good posts about "Nitrocat" these are new to me as they werent around years ago when I was buying tools like cheap hookers..anyone give me a run down on warranty and service as compared to IR?..Thanks for any/all replies...not saying wich is better dont wanna start another "tool 1 vs tool 2" thread..just looking for input..Thanks.

are you looking for 3/8dr impact wrench? or 1/2dr impact wrench?

I own IR 2135ti and it is best impact wrench i ever own. but i dont own 231C as i own two snap on (IM31 and MG31) both impact wrenches are working very good and strong but loud for other techs while i am deaf. I am service technician for Chrysler dealership.

IR guns can be repaired all over the place. Nitrocat has like 2 or 3 and none of them are on the east coast as I recall. Mine had no balls and air was leaking out the back, turns out one of the screws that holds the gun together had backed out a little bit and that is all it was, but if it was something more serious I would have been out of a gun for god knows how long.

Anyway...looking at 1/2"dr..I really like the IR's but was curious about the Nitrocats because of all the posts favoring them alot..I'll most likely be doing Heavy Truck work or equipment work....I think Northern Tool here has Nitrocat
Only thing I have looked for and bought their was a bandsaw blade for my metal cutting saw..Thanks again for the replies..much appreciated.

Nitrocats are sweet, quiet & powerful. Toolwarehouse.net had the IR 231C for 122. in the current catalog if you want one of them.

I use a nitro every day i would say it's holding up pretty well. I wouldn't recamend my version tho only for the reason that you need two hands to switch it. The new one with the lever seems better. The IR titanium seems good as well and you can switch it with one hand. My next gun is the snap on magnisum
3/8 gun, but im going to get the pinned version, and order a short impact 3/8 extension with a ball from MAC (i hate when the ring gets loose and your sockets just falls off). I have a 1/2" impact extension at the end of my nitro for that reason, if the ball falls out i just replace the extension instead of buying rings.

not really ... why stay in a job that "*****" ... never made much sense to me for a person with marketable skills (such as you have) to stay in a job that is financially undesirable

you said it , one friend of mine tried to get fired and did , now he owns his own computer network business , I got out of the dealers and work for the government , nice benefits and pension , pay is not too bad , and guaranteed to go up . I just feel bad for everybody stuck in the swamp

Computer work burns you out more quickly, but it's easier on the body.

I thought about going back to wrenching, but then remembered the long hours, cold/hot weather, crappy pay and benefits, tool payments...wait...what was I talking about?

they expect you to know everything , yet pay you 20% of the labor , no percentage of the parts sales , the support staff makes the lion's share of the money , while they watch you work from the climate controlled write up area . it is the feudal system
