Grease gun problem?

I've had this intermittent problem with my older lincoln hand pump grease gun. It acts like it's out of grease when it's not. You can pump it all you want and it doesn't build pressure. Usually after setting it down on the floor or bench it desides to puke a wad of grease out.

My pneumatic ones do the same thing, I think that air gets trapped in there. The only grease gun that I have never had problems with is my cordless electric one. It is by far the best one that I have ever had, no problems and nevers develops air pockets.

With spring pressure on the grease, carefully unscrew the grease cylinder (as if to change a grease cart.) a couple of turns, This will allow the air that is trapped to vent. With the cylinder unscrewed, work the handle till it starts pumping and then tighten the cylinder back up.

That's caused by air like everyone else already said. All of mine have little buttons on top to release the air. Check if yours does too
