Greasing car door hinges

Guys, out of good practice and general maintenance, I occassionally hit the hinges of car doors with spray white grease.

I just did it to my 03 f150 and now they squeak loud. Tried a little penetrating oil and same. They were fine before

I guess it'll wear in and quiet down. Thoughts?

I've always sprayed white lithium on door hinges and never had a problem.

Ain't that a *****? Try blowing some air in the joints/hinges to blow out whatever debris that is now trapped in the grease. That's probably where squeaking is now coming from.

I've always used Wurth HHS2000... its thin like penetrating oil, but tacks up to a grease. Its the best I've used for hinges, stops, locks, etc. It's on the pricier side though.

In mechanic school years ago they taught us to use motor oil. It doesnt grab and hold dirt the way grease does.

X2 on the motor oil. Great place to use an old school pump can.

Brush/jammed cooper anti seize on the squeaky hinges on my old 2003 work truck years ago and handed it down to another eployee,still squeak free last time I rode in it.

Also try and make sure the outside of spring loaded roller for the door stops didn't get any lube on it. If lube gets on them they won't spin will squeak like all hell. Just take some brake cleaner and a rag and clean it and whatever it comes in contact with. If the roller needs to be lubed, use an eyedropper for more precision.

I've used both motor oil and white lithium.. But one thing I've noticed on my Charger, the hinge was not the problem.. it was a mechanism below it (don't recall exactly what it was without looking at it), but after I lubed that all was good in the world...

I use bicycle chain lube.

Some cars even specify motor oil like 10w30. But the chain lube will get in the places better and attract least dirt of all oil and grease. Just wipe down the area after the lube had seeped in.

I never thought about using motor oil. Good excuse to get an old school pump dispenser or whatever its called. Reminds me of the tin man. Way cooler than aerosol white lith - hah!

I have a 56 cadillac im working on and the hood used to be a real pain to open and shut. White lith and its so much easier now. It would seem the advantage of white lithium grease is that it stays put better than a few dabs of 10w30

Wash out with degreaser before lubing....( your milage may vary ).

WD40 works great for me.
