I have the both, and they are different very slightly. The gearwrench is a little bit thicker, and the vim version uses a spring clip for a strong bit retention versus not on the gearwrench. My gearwrench is at work otherwise I’d check to see if it has a ball retention or friction. I have had enough times where the bit would stay in the fastener after tightening though, albeit those were shcs and already prone to bit sticking.

The gearwrench is however a very nice quality tool and saved my **** a number of times. The set goes on sale for around $13 every once in a while, and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again or to give as a gift.

The metric socket set and the bit ratchet arrived today. I really didn't need all of it but I needed the flex sockets and I couldn't pass on those prices. Sweet little bit ratchet too.

All who bought the R400 ratchet and socket sets: The ratchet in my set has chipping chrome on the very end of the handle end. I did not see it until it gave me a very minor cut and I felt it. Put on strong readers and had a close look. Yes, flaking chrome.

I called MechanixGear.com and they sent me a USPS label to return just the ratchet for a replacement.

So, have a close look (or feel) of your new ratchet. Otherwise, love the set; and so far, can't complain one bit about the warranty service.

Just to note; I called VIM Tools directly first. They have a non-negotiable $9.99 fee for any return of any item for any reason including for warranty. That's lovely Customer Care.

I received my replacement ratchet from MechanixGear for the flaking chrome. Fast with no issues and they sent me the return shipping label. The replacement is perfect. Good warranty experience.
