The wife would like to put a hobby greenhouse in the yard and Ive been contemplating foundations for it. Since it will be freestanding and about 10' by 15' with little to no weight, I would probably just put a floating slab down on a good bed of gravel and let it ride the frost (18" frost zone here).
Trouble is she wants a flagstone over soil floor since there will be a lot of watering and soil spills and doesnt want to have a concrete floor that needs cleaning/traps water/ugly unnatural look.
Im not a fan of placing it on any type of PT wood, so I guess the next best thing is to just dig a 24" deep trench matching the perimeter walls of the greenhouse, placing some rebar, and fillling it with concrete to level grade. Code doesnt make me do a frost free foundation but I want it to last.
Any other suggestions? I cant have differential settlement (or differential frost heave) since its made from glass and a aluminum frame.
