Ground wire size for 220v 50amp heater

I am running a 50 amp 220 circuit with 8 ga wire, but am unsure if I need to size the ground wire the same. Can anyone provide any info?

NEC 250.122 says that up to 60 amps, #10 is OK as an equipment ground.
