Grounded wire? Graco paint sprayer

Hi, im from the UK and just received my Graco spray gun. Its got a wire (very short) from the gun which has the normal US 2 prog plug but has another long rounded 3rd tip. It goes on in the manual about it being a grounded wire and cannot use an adapter etc. So being in the UK what would i need to plug it in?

Ground is what you call earth, but US 120 volt 60 Hertz equipment won't do well on UK 240V 50 Hertz, unless your using a 110V site transformer, but there is still the problem with the frequency 60 Hertz equipment does not like 50 Hertz very well. For those who do not know, on UK construction sites they use a transformer to step down 240 volts to 110 volts, each leg is 55 volts, most likely the only place in the world where 110V is still used.

Thanks for the reply. It was to just to use a home. Would it be alot of work getting what i need and setting up?

(im no electrician or even a good handy man) so please dont go mad if this would kill me....Could i just use a travel adapter plug to connect a US plug into a UK socket? I have one and the Graco plug does fit. Would i get shocked or be ok?

I would think it would be fine, I would just try it and find out, then again, sounds like you have nothing to compare it to if it doesn't perform well.

That little adapter is only 150 watts. I assume it would blow a fuse in it.

I believe the hz difference will give you problems, plus I'm not sure a travel converter has enough watts to operate the sprayer. If you see the one pictured shows only 150W.

You'll probably be ok with Hz, but watch your amps. 150W is only 1.25A

I think your paint sprayer will use more than 150W, which will overload the adapter and either blow a fuse or (hopefully not) burn it up. That type of adapter is what you need, but you need one rated for more than 150 watts. Somewhere on the paint sprayer, there should be a label stating the number of amps it uses, either find an adapter rated for that many amps or multiply the amps by 120 and find an adapter rated for that many watts.

Do you have a model number of the actual Graco device in question?

Well my lack of electrical education is fun. Went to maplin yesterday brought the pic above but it supports only 45watt! so i wasnt too surprised the spray gun only worked for 5 mins before it stopped. Which i guess blew the fuse in the transformer. HOWEVER! no messing around going to get a 300 watt transformer. Guessing that will do it if i carry on with this lack of knowledge i might be dead by next week :/ thank God for forums. You have all been a great help and made me laugh at the lack i know lol Will get back to you with my hopeful success!

Also cant find a watt spec on the gun or internet however is is 2.8 amps. Also did 2.8x120 which syberia said. That comes too 336? Does that mean 300watt wont work?

Yes, that means a 300 Watt converter won't work.

You might try a 500 Watt or even a 750 Watt converter.

There's no way of knowing that.

The fuse may or may not blow, it might just burn it up.

When buying an using converters teansformers etc, u typically dont want to load them past 80% of capacity. So give yourself a little headroom and get say a 400w converter at minimum, or bigger as alfred suggested...
