Harbor Freight suprise

went to HF today just to return a fender pad i bought a year ago but didn't bother to use. while i was browsing the isles to figure out how to spend the $10 store credit i got from it, i found something interesting because normally people wouldn't put "made in USA" and "Harbor Freight" in the same sentence.

here it is:

you can't beat it for $10.

I have that wrench holder. Its ok. I sawed off the allen wrench holders because I wanted a place to put my misc/junk wrenchs. When you open the drawer on the tool box all the wrenchs flop forward, not a big deal. It also can not hold ratching wrenchs because the ratching box end makes it to heavy on the one end. But all in all its a ok. Made to fit in a 16x18" drawer.

I've got two of those. They're made to fit ideally in 26" Craftsman rollaways. I also have one for my sockets, made by the same company. I'd like to find another for sockets.

ok, here is a quickie

i grabbed some random wrenches just to see how it fits inside one of my lowest profile drawers. the size of the drawer i picked is 28.5" x 24", 1.75" deep without liner.

the size of the tray is 21.5" x 15.75"

the profile is 1.5" tall

the maximum clearance of the drawer is 1-7/8", the 1" Snap On combo wrench didn't make it:

but, the Snap On OEX 28 7/8" and MAC CW26 13/16" combo wrenches made through no problem with 1/8" left on top

also the 19mm metric combo

all in all, i think it's a great piece for the money, good for stationary tool box, not good for tool cart. reason is there's no hooks on the wrench rack, so wrenches can slide left 'n right when moving your box around.

HF sells a set of socket organizers similar to the hansen organizers. The ones with the little shafts that point straight up. The work pretty damn well for the price (3 of them for the price of 1 hansen). But like all HF products they skip sizes on the stickers they give for identification. I just used a marker and wrote my own.

I have a new one of those sitting in my 'junk' space, still in the bag.
I bought three and ended up cutting two of them into sections.

They fit Craftsman, Husky, small Mac, and many other standard roller drawers.

My problem with them is that I don't keep things like Allen wrenches with my end wrenches.

However, with a swazall and a little time you can cut them up to make really handy 14 and 15 wrench holders, three wrench holders, and a couple small wrench holders, great for shorties or ignition wrenches.

Then I put the leftover Allen wrench holders in the Allen wrench drawer.


I use a combination of Ernst wrench holders, and the cut up holders from these HF things for all my open wrenches.
Good if you have lots of different sets, with different layouts.

i don't have the luxury of owning many complete wrench sets. i buy what i need not based on what i want. lots of my stuff a loose pieces from yard sale, CL and ebay. i have to say it works great for what's for and really cheap.

I just picked one of those up after seeing the thread, it's a bit tall for the large wrenches as already mentioned and the allen wrench section seems wasteful to me. I'm thinking about cutting it up into individual wrench racks and using the Dremmel to modify it a little to hold the larger wrenches.
