I have a ventless heater in my 3 stall garage I want to replace because of the fumes. I got a price for a Sterling 60,000 BTU heater, similar to a Hot Dawg, along with installation. The gas line is already in place and just a short section would needed to be added. There is already power where the new heater would go. So basically it's the price of the heater, the exhaust pipe which is a straight horozontal 3' shot outside from the heater, a low temp thermostat and incidentials. The price I was quoted was $1650 installed. I think this is way out of line. Your opinions please. Thanks.

The heater has a value of approx. $400. Since you already have power and gas installed, total time to install would be less than 2 hours and if you add $100 for parts for the exhaust, you'd be paying over $500 an hour for the install labor.
I installed mine in 4 hours and that included running the gas line, power AND cutting a hole in the roof for the exhaust. Tell this guy to go F--K himself.

There was no way in he** I was going to pay him that to put it in. I made up my mind I'm going to do it myself. I put the other 2 heaters in w/o a problem and I worked in the oil/chemical industry for almost 40 years, so I KNOW I can do it. Right now I have a bum knee and I think he thought he'd take advantage of that. The knee will be ok by the end of summer and I'll do it myself then.
