I have a 720 sq. ft. garage with insulated garage doors, one wall is joined with the house, all walls are insulated and sheetrocked its r-13 on 3 walls the other wall is blown in not sure on r value, it was built in 2005 if that helps any, also the attic above garage has blown in insulation approximately 2 ft. thick, it has 2 2by3 windows. I will be running a natural gas heater, im looking at the mr. heater big maxx 50k or 80k BTU but not sure what one. I live in North Dakota so we definately get some real cold days during the winter. any info would be appreciated.

You didn't mention ceiling height. While sq footage of floor area is a good start, the rest is with volume. I have a tendency to lean toward overkill in the area of heating in this climate of ours.. Particularly if you will be keeping the temps low (45-50) when you are not working out there and then want to boost it 15-20 degrees in a reasonable timeframe. If the price difference is not a killer, I would buy the larger of the two.

Without getting a proper heat loss calculation done, I'd bet good money that the 50,000 BTUH unit is more than enough.

I agree. A 45k or 50k heater will be plenty.
