Hello everyone! I've posted before but never here, so I thought I would introduce myself. For starters I don't work as a mechanic . I'm actually Lieutenant with our local Sheriff's Office. I've been a cop about 14 years.

I've always been a car guy and was originally going to pursue a career as a mechanic. All through high school I was in a vocational program and took auto mechanics. The last three hours of the day was spent at a technical school. I intended to graduate high school and attend Nashville Auto-Diesel College.

Instead, I joined the army. I'm a veteran from the first gulf war period. I joined up in 1989. I got out in 1993 and became a citizen-soldier with the National Guard. I finally got out of the Guard in 1997.

Somewhere in there I chose a career in law enforcement instead of mechanics, but all is good and it worked out.

My brother in law, who is also a sheriff's deputy, started a small side business working on ATV's. See www.fixmyatv.com. We are currently working out of his small shop behind his house. Before becoming a deputy, my brother-in-law built race cars for Panoz Automotive. He also traveled with their race team for a while. We started the business as a way to pay for our hobbies of riding motorcycles and ATVs. We found out that a local Honda dealership has a shop policy where they don’t work on anything over 10 years old. We worked out a deal with them to refer work they don’t want to us. We undercut their shop rate and we are starting to build a customer base.

I found this site while looking for ideas on home garages. My wife and I are about to build a house. Its nothing fancy, but will have a three-car garage. Two of the bays will be used only for parking her SUV and my truck in. The third bay, which we be separated from the other two, will be for my motorcycle and will have a motorcycle lift and be my “shop” until I can build a bigger, stand alone shop.
