Hello From San Antonio

Hello all. I have been browsing this forum off and on for years as it is a great source of information on quality tools. I have been able to find and buy many tools made in the USA based on the information from this forum. I am just a hobbyist who likes to maintain my own vehicles but I do appreciate a good quality tool when I am doing it.

One tool that always escaped me though was a good quality floor jack. I read for years about people picking up old, high quality jacks for next to nothing for years, but this seemed impossible to replicate. And buying a cheap Chinese jack that cannot be rebuilt seemed foolish.

Then just recently it happened when I was able to find and pick up a vintage Snap On floor jack for 20 dollars. It is missing a fill plug, but otherwise it seems all there.

I plan to ask in the general tool forum about the jack and which part number do I need for a new fill plug. If anyone has any advice about using the forum, as opposed to just reading it, please let me know!

Welcome to the Forum from Southwestern California. I have pleasant memories of the time I spent in San Antonio when I was a student at an Air Force School at Lackland.

In my opinion the most convenient way to get acquainted with the forum is to just jump in and get busy.

We have all made mistakes, except for those who have never done anything. The best way to never make a mistake is to do nothing.

I think most of the members are doing something, only by doing do we grow. Growing is why I am here.

I have some Chinese tools that will probably last a long time and work fine. I good bolt dose not care where the wrench that turns it was made, and a good wrench does not care where the bolt it turns was made.

Thank you both. And I do agree with you Nadogail about the tools, but USA jacks have rebuild kits available to them much more frequently. And any dollar not being sent to China is another not used target us militarily.

I used to work at a hydraulic shop, many parts are either shared between manufacturers or copied from their competition.

That is interesting, I have looked for part kits and the USA made jacks have them in spades while the Chinese jacks rarely have them available. It makes sense though that a person who works at a hydraulic shop would have access to any seal imaginable.
