Hello from San Diego!

Hi guys! My name is George. I'm guilty of being a lurker for a little while, and finally thought i'd make it official and introduce myself.

I'm from North County San Diego. Love working on old Chevys, and c10 trucks. Been into them since before I could drive. In my late 30's now, and still love tinkering in the garage when i have the time.
I am a graphic designer, but going back to school to learn machining and manufacturing. Love SolidWorks, and learning to build/manufacture stuff on the mill.

What triggered me to really get on and be more involved in this awesome community is I've been needing a large compressor for my garage in a bad way. Been looking for an oldie but goodie for a while..The old 33 gallon oilless craftsman wasn't cutting it at all.
I just picked up an old 70's Kellogg American 80 gallon, and will be posting in another thread of my purchase, and any tips y'all have for me for it. Im really happy to start using it to get some things done!

Look forward to being on here more, and learning. As well as contributing anything i can be a help with!

George (SD): might i suggest you find threads talking about your compressor if there are actually any and if you don't find any answers you need just ask questions on those threads instead of just starting a thread.

of course you can start a thread, but by posting on threads already talking about this or any item you've got member's eyes that already are familiar with the subject to help you.

Yes, I'm totally aware and familiar with how the forum communities work. I've been and on the HAMB for years, and also active on quite a few other forums.
I was referring to posting a thread about my compressor, and documenting the project and restoration process, and if members with experience wanted to chime in and give me some tips or advice with my process, than I was just giving them the welcome to do that. (I'm always open to receive instruction/advice to learn.)

I also know how to use the search function, and I won't cloud up GJ with question threads without searching first, or asking questions on related threads. It's not how I roll.

SD: you didn't mention you were a pro and i should be taking tips from you, but sounds like you are still willing to learn things which is awesome. I'm happy to hear you are well versed in forum activities and i haven't been on HAMB, but i think it's the same owners and the same set up only here we might be a tad friendlier i've heard. not certain that's true, but i've heard rumors that it is.

best of luck with the compressor and if you might need some advice or even parts i hope some members on here can help you. i need a new big compressor too, but i think i'll need to build my big shop first and just deal with the small ones i own until then.

just curious since it's 80 degrees up here in Seattle today and it's usually 80 in San Diego in January how hot was it in your area today?

@drivesitfar most def not a pro. I just love tinkering. I'm jus the type that doesn't mind failing, to hopefully learn the lessons and find ways to make it happen. Whether it be old cars, trucks, machining, welding, etc.

But for sure got lots to learn and love seeing people build things!!
Yea..and you're right. The HAMB can be pretty snobby when it comes to "newbies"...lots of old timers on there, and set in their ways....but in the end, the good outweighs the bad. A wealth of info on there, and I learned so much from the good guys on there that have years of hands on experience. That stuff is priceless, and I'm def grateful.

Today was about 75. It was warm this weekend for sure. Got a little dry heatwave. But I def can't complain! Ha!
I hear Seattle is nice weather too...just rains more in the winter I hear..
